CLOUD-INIT-README

Instructions for how to use cloud-init image in the control panel.

Cloud-init is great for quick setup of VMs. The VM will be deployed with your chosen settings and automatically deploy both IPv4 and IPv6 settings.

The default username for your SSH user is notroot — using this user you can sudo to root and become a privileged user.

SSH login

For security reasons the default setting for SSH is to require an SSH key. The VM will not allow you to login via SSH using a password.

You can add your SSH keys via the control panel under Security → SSH keys.

If you did not add the key prior to deployment of the VM, you will have to either redeploy it (deletes data) or add the public key manually via console access.

Allow SSH login with password (not recommended)

You can enable password login via your console access. See linuxconfig.org/enable-ssh-root-login-on-debian-linux-server for instructions.
